Redstation is now RapidSwitch

Redstation Networks was acquired by iomart in 2010 and its hosting customers were migrated onto the RapidSwitch platform. The Maidenhead datacentre, the infrastructure and the engineering heritage all carried forward under the new name.

Where Redstation came from

Redstation Networks Ltd was founded in Maidenhead in 2003, building a reputation as one of the UK's early dedicated server specialists. The company operated its own datacentre on the same Maidenhead site that still anchors the network today, and grew steadily through the 2000s as demand for UK-based bare-metal hosting climbed. The proposition was straightforward and unusual for the time: own the building, own the kit, own the IP space, and let customers rent dedicated servers without ever leaving the UK jurisdiction.

In 2010 Redstation was acquired by iomart Group, the FTSE-listed UK cloud and managed services business that already operated its own datacentre estate in Glasgow, Maidenhead and several other UK cities. The acquisition gave iomart additional Maidenhead capacity and a dedicated server customer book that complemented its existing managed and cloud hosting lines. For several years Redstation continued to trade under its own name; in 2014 the Redstation hosting customer base was migrated onto the RapidSwitch platform, which is the brand iomart has operated the UK dedicated server business under ever since.

What carried over, what changed

The Redstation Maidenhead datacentre is still in operation as one of RapidSwitch's two primary UK sites. The physical estate, the racks, the cross-connects and the engineering practice transferred wholesale; the Maidenhead facility now sits inside iomart's wider UK datacentre footprint, which also includes Gosport, Glasgow, Manchester, London and Nottingham. You can see the current Maidenhead site in detail on the Maidenhead datacentre page.

What changed was the brand on the invoice and the control panel. Redstation as a trading name was retired so the dedicated server business could be presented under one banner alongside the wider iomart portfolio. Customers were moved across to the RapidSwitch MyServers portal, billing was consolidated, and the product catalogue was aligned with the rest of iomart's dedicated hosting estate. The Redstation domain has redirected here since the rebrand, and inbound links that previously pointed at redstation.co.uk now resolve to the equivalent RapidSwitch page.

What you can still expect

If you originally signed up with Redstation, your service is now provisioned and supported by RapidSwitch. The proposition is the same as it always was: UK-engineered dedicated servers, fully-owned datacentre space, a private UK-wide network and a UK support team. Existing customers continue to sign in to MyServers as usual; everything you used to get from Redstation - bare-metal servers, colocation, managed hosting, IP transit - is still available, now under the RapidSwitch name. Contracts, IP allocations and service histories were carried over at migration, so long-standing accounts haven't lost continuity.

New customers can configure and order servers directly from the shop, see the wider UK datacentre footprint, or read more about the business on the About RapidSwitch page.
